If only bullets were flowers....

One of my former students sent me this clip from Ellen, talking about how to improve on violence in the media. I love it!

  1. Okay, this is awesome. It's also a really clever way of showing just how many guns and acts of violence there! Thanks for sharing!

  2. And way less offensive! Though my kid would probably be more likely to throw muffins if they saw that.

  3. So funny. Its true that our society is so NOT offended by violence in the media. Its really sad, and I am guilty of it too sometimes.

  4. I agree with, Lindsay. Turning the guns into flowers and balloons really draws your attention to how many guns and acts of violence there are in one clip. I'm sure if I watched that scene normally, I wouldn't have noticed to that extent.

  5. I love it when things I learn in class relate to real life. It makes me feel so smart, I was at a bonfire just the other night and this guy started talking about violence in media and I couldn't help but talk about all the stuff we have learned in class and my group's Batman study. Naturally everyone thought I was fascinating and brilliant...but it was so cool that something I am passionate about is being discussed, plus you gotta love Ellen!

  6. I'm obsessed with Ellen! I love how she takes real life issues and while everyone else is bickering, she makes us laugh while still highlighting the issue. Love her!

  8. I love this! I also love reading the comments and I really agree with Lindsey on how much violence there really is in the media. Without the replacement of the flowers we would see the guns and not think much about how much violence there really is in this video. Thanks for sharing, loved this insight.
